Shhh! Keep Gov. Perry's Idiocy a Secret from the Republicans!

OK everybody, I know you're incredulous at Texas Governor Rick Perry's idiotic pronouncements. But STFU! It's a secret! If we can just keep quiet and let Perry win the Republican nomination, the 2012 election will be ours!

Seriously, people ... can we really have a leader of the free world who uses a controversial and unapproved stem-cell medical procedure, but at the same time doesn't believe in evolution or global warming? Can the President of the United States lead the world if he believes prayer is the only solution to our problems?

Maybe when pigs fly. This kind of stuff scares even moderate Republicans. But don't tell the Tea Party! The evangelical right has hijacked the Republican party, and they're totally drunk on their success. They've become blind to Perry's hypocrisy and anti-science views. They're elated! They honestly think they can drag the entire country from the twenty first century back into the dark ages.

But they're going to have a really hard time getting Perry elected. The Governor of Texas doesn't even know what's going on in his own state! He recently claimed:
"In Texas we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools — because I figure you're smart enough to figure out which one is right."
Except that don't teach creationism in Texas schools because it's against the law!

And he's a patriot, right? Republicans are all about patriotism ... aren't they? Maybe not:
“When [the State of Texas] came into the nation in 1845, we were a republic, we were a stand-alone nation. And one of the deals was, we can leave anytime we want. So we’re kind of thinking about that again.”
Right ... saying that Texas should secede from the United States of America sure sounds patriotic to me. And when challenged, he reiterated this opinion even though law experts say he's wrong.

And it seems he doesn't even like the Unites States Constitution, particularly that business about separation of powers. Governor Perry wants to eliminate the independence of the Supreme Court and make Congress the ultimate authority of all constitutional questions. That makes sense to me – he wants to give politicians like himself (he barely managed to graduate from college and has no legal training at all) the power to overturn the decisions of some of the most highly qualified legal scholars in the world.

The danger here is that some Republicans are waking up. They know that if Perry (or Bachmann, Romney or Paul) win the nomination, their party is effectively dead for the next four years. The big fat-cat Republican old-money men are desperately working behind the scenes to convince New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) to throw their hats in the ring. If either Christy or Ryan announced his candidacy, they'd be flooded with money from the party bosses.

So if you think that man who doesn't believe in science shouldn't be in control of our nuclear arsenal, then just keep quiet. If you think Perry's stem-cell treatment is gross hypocrisy since he doesn't believe in evolution, then be patient. If you're frightened when Perry says, "Jesus didn't come to take sides, he came to take over," or "It's time to hand [government] over to God, and say 'God, you're gonna have to fix this,'" then bite your tongue for a while.

Let's keep quiet and let the fringe evangelical right push Perry to a victory in the primary. Then we'll get to watch in amusement as their golden boy is laughed off the national stage along with his radical anti-science agenda and un-American legal opinions.
